grammie great

Grandma is doing GREAT!!! They are moving her to the Rehabilitation Unit of the hospital - she is amazing! She is 94 1/2 and just had her partial hip replacement on Monday! I cannot believe that she is already being moved. Praise the Lord. We saw her yesterday - she looks wonderful! We will see her again tomorrow and I am sure that she will be running circles around people her half her age in the Rehab Unit who have been there twice as long as she.

Not the greatest picture, but this was taken on Mother's Day - how many 94 year olds do you know who look like this? She couldn't be happier spending time with her great grandchildren; they call her "Grammie Great"!

Reagan

This was so cool - my brother and sister-in-law, along with my new niece, Reagan were on the front page of our local paper. Check it out here.

my little mover

Isn't she just the cutest little 15 month old?! She is on the run - probably to get to her sister. People will tell you how much you will love your kids, but you cannot imagine the love that you have for them until they are here!

The greatest woman I know

Well, the weekend started out with a BANG! Friday night we were at LAX meeting the newest member of our family, Reagan. My brother and sister-in-law adopted her from Vietnam and she is the cutest little 7 month old! She is so sweet and appears to be adjusting well to her new loud and large family! Ellie is a bit confused on where she came from - "Was she in Auntie Laura's tummy?", but it has given us great opportunities to share how God has adopted us into His kingdom if we are His children. I am sure that there are many more conversations to come.

Saturday, was relatively quiet!

Sunday was Tilly's (my mom's grandma name) birthday! It also was a "family reunion" of sorts - my cousin and his wife and their two sweet girls are here visiting from Virginia. Any excuse to get together and eat! We had such a great time and all of the kids had a BLAST! I mean who wouldn't with a bouncer and all of your cousins?!

This leads me to "The Greatest Woman I Know". My grandma is 94 1/2 - I add the 1/2 because you would never guess that she was anywhere near 95 - she is in better shape than many 60 year olds - and is the most amazing woman! God drew her to Himself many years ago and through her diligent example her three daughters have come to know Christ and her grandchildren as well - she is dilligently praying for her 17 great grandchildren. She is such an amazing example of faithfulness - if you ask her to pray - she will pray! She has a relationship with the Lord that I yearn for. I look at her and am constantly amazed at her strength - both physically and spiritually. God has blessed her in so many ways and yet I feel so much more blessed to have her as my grandma. I cannot remember an event that she was not there for - dance recitals, school performances, sporting events, open houses (while I was a student and a teacher), the births of my children, if you call her she will come - nothing was/is more important than her family. It isn't until we may lose someone that we really realize how important they are to us - grandma fell yesterday while cleaning up - yes, at 94 1/2 it is nearly impossible to get her to sit down and watch everyone else clean up - the long and short of it is that she fractured her hip and had to have a partial hip replacement this afternoon. As usual, she is the most beautiful patient in the hospital - the others in the CCU (critical care unit) look as if they are near death - and grandma's crystal blue eyes are just as sparkly as ever! As I drove down to the hospital this afternoon I was praying that God would bring her through this with flying colors (which He has) and that He would allow her to stay with us for a little bit longer - I know that there will never be a day when I am ready to say goodbye and yet she told my mom that she is at peace - it is a win/win either way - if she comes out of the surgery . . . Awesome! If not, she will be in the presence of HER Lord - What an amazing perspective! And to see her truly live that out and be at peace with what God would have for her. I cherish every moment with my grandma - I love her more than I could ever say. I admire her more than she knows. She is the greatest woman I know and I am so blessed to call her grandma! I love you grandma!

This was taken last year - I can't find a more recent picture.

blogging

Well, I have fallen victim to the blog - I am not really sure what has come over me - I am not one who journals (although I always want to), but I thought that this might be an interesting way to share about my sweet children and husband and all that the Lord is teaching me. I chose to name my blog "grace and joy" for a couple of reasons:

  1. Those are the middle names of my precious children.
  2. I cannot go through a day without experiencing one or both of those feelings - grace - I am surrounded by God's grace - undeservadly bestowed upon me and joy - true joy that can only come from my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

I will do more later - that is all for now.
